Jintang Island
Jintang Island is the fourth largest island in the Zhoushan Archipelago, separated from the main Zhoushan Island by just a strip of water, and covers an area of 76 square kilometers. Historically, Jintang Island was the grain-producing region of Zhoushan and was the first island in the vicinity to achieve grain self-sufficiency. The island is known for its specialty fruit, the Jintang plum, which is famous for its green skin, red flesh, large size, small pit, juicy texture, and delicious flavor. The island also has a well-developed furniture industry, whose products are popular in both domestic and international markets for their high-quality materials, exquisite craftsmanship, innovative designs, and glossy finishes—earning Jintang Island the nickname “Furniture Island.”
The nearby waters of Jintang Island produce a large variety of seafood, such as squid, pomfret, cuttlefish, and hairtail. On the small island of Dapeng Island located to the northwest of Jintang, the local sea snails are renowned across Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai for their large size, tender meat, rich flavor, and thin shells.
Off the northern coast of Jintang Island rise five small islands collectively known as the Five Islets: North Steamed Bun Mountain, Dragon Cave Mountain, Magpie Cliff, and Big Wuzhi, among others. These are famous bird islands within the Zhoushan Archipelago.
