Daishan Coastal Defense Museum

The China Coastal Defense Museum is located in the coastal area to the southeast of Huangzuitou on Daishan Island. The terrain is rugged, and the green fortress walls built along the mountains and coastline are hidden within dense forests, enclosing the entire exhibition complex. The museum campus is divided into four main areas: the central exhibition zone, the peripheral exhibition zone, the tunnel exhibition zone, and the leisure tourism zone.

The main building of the central exhibition zone primarily displays over 600 images and several models, showcasing the history of coastal defense in both modern and contemporary times, especially that of Zhoushan. Here, visitors can not only learn about coastal defense knowledge but also see models of six historically significant warships, including Zheng Chenggong’s battleship, the Dingyuan and Zhiyuan warships that participated in the First Sino-Japanese War, as well as the Zhongshan and Chongqing warships.

The peripheral exhibition zone features heavy weapons such as a J-5 fighter jet, several anti-aircraft guns, and machine guns. The tunnel exhibition zone displays models of 24 renowned warships from China and abroad, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers, frigates, landing craft, and submarines. The leisure tourism zone includes facilities such as an observation post on the mountaintop overlooking the East China Sea, tunnel exploration areas, and battlefield picnic zones.

The location of the museum, Huangzuitou, has historically been an important coastal defense stronghold in eastern China. Troops stationed here in the past left behind barracks, trenches, tunnels, bunkers, and ammunition depots. The Coastal Defense Museum was built by renovating and expanding these original military structures, creating a multifunctional modern cultural venue that integrates military, historical, cultural, and recreational elements. It also serves as a site for patriotic and national defense education.
