Sanmen Nanshan Scenic Area

The Nanshan Scenic Area is located to the south of the county town, covering an area of 2 square kilometers. It mainly consists of three scenic zones: Nanshan, Danfengshan, and Wanghailou.

Nanshan belongs to the Dalong Mountain Range, originating from Tiantai, stretching through Linhai, and extending all the way to the southern part of Haiyou City. Resembling a coiling dragon, it is commonly known as Dragon Mountain. In the past, it was celebrated for the “Twelve Scenic Spots of Dragon Mountain,” such as the Dragon Mountain Academy, Wenchang Pavilion, and Wenfeng Pagoda. After being designated as a scenic area in 1980, the Nanshan Scenic Area has undergone continuous development and has become increasingly well-appointed. On the eve of New Year’s Day 2000, the West Road and Middle Road of Nanshan were also completed. Especially the Middle Road tightly connects the East Road and the West Road, making pavilions, pagodas, and woods form a unique ensemble that complements each other, making it an ideal place for public leisure and entertainment.

Danfengshan, standing at 326.9 meters above sea level, is the second highest peak in the Nanshan Scenic Area. Legend has it that Ge Xuan, a Taoist alchemist from the Three Kingdoms period, once practiced alchemy here. The original TV tower has been renovated into a three-story delicate pagoda with yellow walls and red tiles, featuring windows on all four sides, now situated atop Danfengshan. Climbing the pagoda offers panoramic views where mountains and rivers intertwine, with verdant hues and white mists weaving through the landscape. The area features main attractions such as the Danfeng Pagoda, a statue of Ge Xuan, Danquan Pavilion, Baochun Pavilion, Longshan Pavilion, Yangdan Pavilion, Renshou Pavilion, Yiran Pavilion, Guanri Pavilion, Sitong Pavilion, and Jingxin Pavilion—all uniquely styled and rich in character.

Wanghailou, at 491.6 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the Nanshan Scenic Area. At its summit lies the Astral Observation Platform, which offers expansive views. To the east, one can see interconnected harbors blending with the water and sky; to the west, the peaks of Tiantai Huading rise layer upon layer amid undulating mountains; to the north are the lofty Shuangjian Peaks, and to the south are the Qiuishui Mountain Ranges. Beneath one's feet lie thousands of emerald pine trees, with the rustling of pine waves echoing in the air. Overlooking the town below, high-rises stand in close succession, while streets bustle with orderly traffic. Such breathtaking views of water and mountain inspire a feeling of boundless openness, tranquility, and an enlarged state of mind—making it an ideal leisure destination.
