Wonder Five: Mud Sliding and Seafood Feasting
Zhejiang’s travel attractions offer not only spectacular sights but also delicious cuisine. Shenlong Island in Taizhou features vast tidal flats where you can spot plump, large seafood creatures crawling all over the place. If you want to get your hands dirty catching clams and crabs, then “mud sliding” is the way to go. Grab a wooden bucket, take off your shoes, step onto the mudflats, plant one foot on a “sea horse” (a wooden board), use the other as a paddle, and glide and stomp your way swiftly across, picking up fresh seafood along the way. Mud sliding on Shenlong Island is most enjoyable in summer. It's worth mentioning that the waters around Shenlong Island are rich in seafood, especially clams, oysters, blue crabs, and white shrimp, considered the “cream of the crop.” Sit by the sea, enjoy a gentle breeze, sip on some beer, and savor the freshly caught, plump seafood—what more could you ask for?
Wonder Six: Stone-Carved Floral Windows
The serpent-shaped Shenlong stones quarried on Taizhou’s Shenlong Island are easy to carve, so locals have used them to create exquisitely crafted windows. At the island’s Stone Window Art Museum, you can see over 300 uniquely designed stone windows up close. Their patterns range from blooming flowers and lush trees to folk tales, displaying both the delicacy of paper-cut art and the rustic charm of stone carving. The oldest stone window is a Ming Dynasty relic, a rare treasure to behold.
