Tiejia Reservoir is located in the northeastern part of Donggang City, at the junction of four townships—Qianyang, Tangchi, Chang’an, and Shizijie. It is 24 kilometers from downtown Donggang and 26 kilometers from Dandong City. The reservoir covers an area of 2,155.1 hectares, with a total storage capacity of 256 million cubic meters and a catchment area of 241 square kilometers. It is the largest among the 42 reservoirs in Donggang City. Primarily serving urban domestic water supply, irrigation, flood control, power generation, and fish farming, it is the largest comprehensive water conservancy hub in the Dandong region and one of the largest multi-functional reservoirs in Liaoning Province. Surrounded by mountains, the reservoir features rippling waters, gentle breezes, and lush greenery, offering enchanting scenery. Its crystal-clear water is comparable to that of Hangzhou’s West Lake, earning it the title “West Lake of the North.” The reservoir is also abundant in aquatic resources, especially a wide variety of freshwater fish known for their freshness and delicious taste, making it famous both domestically and internationally as a “paradise for food lovers.” Since being opened to the public in 1984, Tiejia Reservoir has attracted a large number of tourists with its unique geographical location and stunning natural beauty. Visitors come to enjoy the scenic views, savor fresh fish, and escape the summer heat. In its peak tourist years, the site welcomes up to 80,000 visitors, making it a naturally formed major tourist attraction in the city.

Surrounding Tiejia Reservoir are six medium-sized reservoirs—including Luoquanzi, Lianjiaba, and Helong—with capacities ranging from 10 million to 100 million cubic meters, 15 small Type I reservoirs with capacities between 1 million and 10 million cubic meters, and over 21 small Type II reservoirs, along with more than 40 ponds and dams of various sizes. Together, they form a vast and resource-rich reservoir cluster—an exceptionally rare phenomenon in China. The area boasts unique natural advantages: near the Shancheng Reservoir, which is just a stone’s throw away from Tiejia Reservoir, lies the ancient cave site of the Qianyang people from the Paleolithic Age, dating back 18,000 years, showcasing a long-standing ancient cultural heritage. The Danzhuang Expressway, currently under planning and construction, will pass through the area, ensuring convenient transportation. Thanks to its superior geographical location and naturally distinctive landscape, Tiejia Reservoir is hailed as the “urban backyard garden” of both Dandong and Donggang cities.
