The countdown to the opening of Pingtung County’s Black Marlin Culture and Tourism Season has begun. The county government has continued last year’s “Summer Sakura Love” theme, which was inspired by sakura shrimp, decorating Donggang Town with cherry blossom lights, love-themed flower beds, Sakura Love chairs, and more, creating a romantic atmosphere that showcases another charming side of Donggang.

The Pingtung County Government Tourism and Communication Department stated that with the new addition of the “Sakura Beauty” character to the Black Marlin Season, the event uses personification to have Sakura Beauty and the Black Marlin “Giko” explore Donggang together, introducing local attractions and features. These include Zhenhai Temple, Sea Wu, the Donggang River embankment, the Donggang Fishing Port Seafood Direct Sales Center (Overseas Chinese Market), as well as the Guangfu Road Japanese-style wooden bridge and Safety Island Park—six major spots that attract visitors to discover a different side of Donggang.
Now, when you walk into Donggang Town, along the Guangfu Road seafood street, you can already see pink cherry blossom lanterns, like clusters of red cherry blossoms reflected on the water surface, complemented by greenery on both banks, forming a stunning scene that is truly breathtaking. At night, when the lanterns are lit, it’s as if the moon is hanging above the willow trees, creating the “Sakura Love Path.” Meanwhile, the Safety Island Park on Guangfu Road features a wall photo spot with Black Marlin Giko and Sakura Beauty, as well as Sakura Love chairs, making it a perfect place for couples to meet.

The Jinde Bridge, which connects Donggang Town and Xinyuan Township, features a red basket-like design that complements the Donggang River embankment. The county government has planned a “Heart Bridge Station” on the riverside pedestrian walkway, where the bridge railings are adorned with floating cherry blossom petals. Here, you can not only take beautiful photos with the scenic rainbow bridge but also create wonderful memories. Climbing to the top of Sea Wu offers a 360-degree panoramic view, with sights including Dawu Mountain and Little Liuqiu in the distance, and the Donggang River, Gaoping River estuary, and fishing boats returning from sea operations up close. The county government has arranged a love-themed flower bed at the top of Wu, symbolizing a “Sea of Love.” When night falls, heart-shaped lights illuminate, adding to the romantic ambiance.

In addition, Zhenhai Temple is one of the seven major temples in Donggang for worship. The Jhulong Temple’s every-three-years King Welcoming and Peace Festival is held next to Zhenhai Park in Zhenhai Temple, featuring the Water Invitation and King Sending rituals (burning the King Boat) on the Heavenly River. After visiting the attractions, you can also head to Pingtung County’s largest seafood retail market—the Donggang Fishing Port Seafood Direct Sales Center—to sample a variety of freshly caught seafood and local snacks. The rooftop also features a sea-viewing platform, and in the evening, there’s a dazzling light show display.
