The "2014 Pingtung Black Marlin Festival," featuring cultural creativity, light art, and gourmet food, has kicked off in grand style.

This year's (2014) "Pingtung Black Marlin Culture and Tourism Festival" officially opened on the evening of the 3rd in Donggang Township. With energetic performances by singers such as Wēn Lán, Dīng Dāng, and the Chairman Band, the event launched its two-month-long black marlin celebration with a concert-level spectacular evening show.
The Pingtung Tourism Department stated that this year’s two-month-long black marlin festival, themed "Summer Sakura Romance" in combination with sakura shrimp, features artistic performances every Saturday and Sunday at locations such as the Donggang Riverside Park, Overseas Chinese Market, and the water recreation area of Dapeng Bay Leisure Zone. These include nostalgic folk songs, passionate rock, laid-back jazz, as well as magic shows and glove puppetry. In addition, the Jinde Bridge, which just lit up with light art at the end of April, also joins in with dazzling multicolored lights to make the event even more "spectacular."

The Black Marlin Festival also offers numerous promotional deals. Ten restaurants certified for excellent food hygiene in black marlin cuisine — Donggang Dongxi, Wei Yi Food Store, Ren Hao Zi, Dongxing Food (Retail Branch), Cheng Ji Shuang Gao Run, Bafu Home-style Braised Dishes, Jia Zhen Seafood Shop, Zhang Jia Canteen Gourmet Club, Dongf Restaurant, and Fu Wan Manor — respectively offer discounts of 10% or free gifts when spending a certain amount. The event brochure also includes coupons for easy “cut-price” savings. The public can pick them up for free at the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration Visitor Center, various 7-11 convenience store locations in Pingtung, and major restaurants and shops in Donggang.
Additionally, during the Black Marlin Festival from May 3 to June 30, the public can exchange a limited-edition “Traveling with Love” luggage tag souvenir — featuring the designs of Sakura Shrimp Girl and Black Marlin Guy — for every NT$1,000 or more in accumulated receipts from purchases made across the three townships of Donggang, Liuqiu, and Linbian. Only 5,000 pieces are available, while stocks last. Six scenic spots in Donggang Township, including Zhenhai Temple, Hai Zhi Wu, the Japanese-style wooden bridge on Guangfu Road, the Safety Island Park, the Donggang River embankment, and the Donggang Fishery Harbor Seafood Direct Sales Center (Overseas Chinese Market), have been decorated with romantic ambiance. Visitors who take photos at any three of these spots, collage them into one image, and upload it tothe “i Pingtung ~ Love Pingtung” Facebook fan pagewith the comment “I Love Pingtung - 2014 Pingtung Black Marlin Culture and Tourism Festival,” can also receive the “Traveling with Love” luggage tag.
