Houwa Site

The Houwa Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Era: Neolithic Age

The Houwa Site is situated on a terrace within an orchard in Houwa Tun, Sanjiazi Village, Majiadian Town, Donggang City. A stone-carved dragon unearthed at the Houwa Site was discovered during the 1981 cultural relics survey in Dandong City. The site stretches 150 meters from north to south and 100 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 15,000 square meters. The cultural deposits are divided into upper and lower layers. Carbon-14 dating indicates that the lower layer dates back over 6,000 years, while the upper layer is around 5,000 years old.

Among the excavated artifacts are pottery items such as pots, bowls, and cups, stone grinding plates, talc carvings of animals, agricultural tools, daily-use pottery, handmade tools, and decorative artworks. The daily-use pottery, handmade tools, and decorative artworks exhibit relatively high craftsmanship. In May 2013, it was designated as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
