The annual Wanggong Fishing Fires Festival is set to take place on August 5 and 6. The fireworks display, which was canceled last year (2016) in response to environmental concerns, will make a comeback this year (2017). In addition to the dazzling fireworks, there will also be an ocean music concert, a blessing street parade carnival, and a local food feast. Meanwhile, the Changhua County Government recently held a “Wanggong Fishing Port Lighting Ceremony,” where tens of thousands of LED lights illuminated the harbor, making it even more beautiful at night.

The Regent Taipei’s Cloud Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton launched bottomless Irish River oysters in July, sourced directly from Ireland. Within just nine days of the promotion, over 20,000 oysters were consumed, with one guest setting a remarkable record of eating 28 oysters in one sitting. Due to the overwhelming popularity, the hotel has added Thursday afternoons to the serving period. The oyster promotion now runs every Thursday through Sunday during afternoon tea hours. The price is NT$1,180 per person +10%.

A couple’s food truck dream — from Taipei to Penghu
They converted a vehicle into a food truck in Taipei and then transported it to Penghu. The truck has standing platforms on both sides, allowing people to enjoy food on their feet. Both of them previously worked in the food industry — one handles the front of house while the other manages the kitchen. They turned the entire grassy area into an open-air restaurant, serving three dishes every day, all made with local ingredients, aiming to let more people experience the unique flavors of Penghu.

The refreshing mist in the air instantly relieves the intense summer heat. To help the public beat the heat this summer, the Taipei Water Department announced that as long as visitors take a photo of themselves drinking water at a direct drinking fountain in parks or hiking trails and upload it to the Taipei Water Facebook fan page along with a comment about the location, they can enjoy free entry to the Taipei Water Park during the entire month of August.

Near Le Hua Night Market in Yonghe District, New Taipei City, a 60-year-old iron factory that had been abandoned for over a decade will reopen on August 4 (trial operation) under a new identity — the 51bbq Korean BBQ restaurant — to serve the local community. Like many restaurants housed in old buildings, 51bbq Korean BBQ has preserved as much of the factory’s historical essence as possible, including its original windows, tool tables, and beams, allowing diners to catch a glimpse of the iron factory’s former look.
