Easier than Xiangshan Hill—Admire Taipei 101 from a cemetery-turned-scenic park

Want to admire Taipei’s iconic 101 without huffing and puffing up Xiangshan Hill? At Fuzhou Mountain Park in Taipei’s Da’an District, the trails are gentler and more walkable than those at Xiangshan. Though not particularly high, the park offers expansive city views, including sweeping sights of Taipei 101 and the city’s prime districts. On clear days, distant mountains and blue skies with white clouds provide a stunning backdrop—perfect for lazy travelers who want great scenery without exhausting themselves.

Taipei’s Fuzhou Mountain Park gained popularity last year due to a tree dubbed the “magical tree,” attracting many netizens who climbed it to take cinematic fantasy photos. However, as the tree had withered, the authorities responsible for its maintenance removed it in late October 2016. Still, even without the magical tree, Fuzhou Mountain Park remains a scenic gem that rivals Xiangshan and is well worth a visit.

Fuzhou Mountain Park, located near the Taipei Connector of National Freeway No. 2, was once a cemetery. However, after being beautified by the city government, it was transformed into a leisure park. The park features gentle, easy-to-walk trails, mostly consisting of sleeper stone and gravel paths, lined with lush trees that keep the area cool even in hot summer weather. Visitors can also rest at small pavilions along the way. Compared to other scenic hiking trails, it’s much more beginner-friendly.

Walking through Fuzhou Mountain Park, you’ll be accompanied by beautiful views of Taipei, along with clear sights of Taipei 101—offering an exceptional vantage point. Netizen Wu Yun also shared on the “Traveling is Super Fun!” group, saying, “I’m not great at hiking, but this place is pretty easy. It’s way more walkable than Xiangshan.” However, visitors should be mindful of sun protection in the summer, and note that the park has many mosquitoes. Wearing long sleeves or bringing insect repellent is recommended to avoid bites.
