Mabao Store Ecotourism Area

The Mabao Store Ecotourism Area is located in Wulan Township, northern Wuda District, Wuhai City, about 1.5 kilometers north of Xincun Village in Wulan Township. The total area of the tourism zone is approximately 6,000 acres. To the north lies the Ulan Buh Desert, to the south is a

vast sand-fixation forest farm, and the Yellow River flows northward along the eastern edge of the area.

The area is covered with drought-resistant desert plants, and beneath the saxaul and white thorn bushes grow two precious plants—cistanche and

cynomorium, which have kidney-tonifying, yang-invigorating, and laxative effects. Locals call them “desert ginseng.” It is also a paradise for wildlife, where birds sing cheerfully in the woods, hares roam in groups, foxes and pheasants appear from time to time, and wild ducks frequently fly overhead. Entering the Mongolian Camp and climbing the over ten-meter-high watchtower, you can gaze into the distance to see the vast expanse of the Ulan Buh Desert and the Yellow River winding like a golden dragon. About 500 meters from the camp is the Mabao

Store Site. It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, a man surnamed Ma was the first to open a shop here, hence the name Mabao Store. The remaining platform of the old shop is about one meter high and covers an area of five or six hundred square meters, massive and solid, where shopkeepers and customers once lived leisurely. Standing on the platform,

looking back at the desolate and silent sandy wilderness offers a uniquely moving

experience and a reflective taste of the passage of time and life.
