The Château de Chantilly is an ancient castle located in the heart of the largest forest on the outskirts of Paris. It includes two affiliated buildings: the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s, and the Petit Château, built around 1560 for the Duc de Montmorency. The castle is now owned by the Institut de France and houses the Musée Condé, one of France’s finest art galleries, which is open to the public.
The architecture of the Château de Chantilly is magnificent, situated at the center of a 7,800-hectare garden. The garden landscaping features geometric symmetry and statues. This unique château is a royal domain that has been visited by many notable figures throughout French history from the Middle Ages to the present. The castle is built from rock, surrounded by lakes, and composed of many prestigious monuments from the 14th to 19th centuries. It is known as a fairy-tale kingdom rising from the waters.
In addition to regularly hosting exhibitions and events, since 1987, the Château de Chantilly has also held an “International Fireworks Competition” every other year on the garden lawns in front of the château. The two-day competition is a grand festival for residents within a hundred kilometers, attracting over 60,000 spectators daily to witness the spectacular fireworks display.
