Japan’s Most Healing Festival!* 1,500 Pikachu Appear in Yokohama – Spotted on Land, Sea, and Air

Every summer, the must-do highlight in Yokohama, Japan, is the “Pikachu Outbreak” event series!* This year’s edition will be even more spectacular, with about 1,500 Pikachu – double last year’s number – set to appear on the streets of Yokohama. You can spot these adorable creatures on land, at sea, and even in the sky, as a whole lineup of activities keeps you entertained throughout the scorching summer vacation.
This year’s “Pikachu Outbreak” takes place in Yokohama from August 9 to 15. Over the seven-day event period, Pikachu sightings are guaranteed daily across various spots in the city, including four must-see events:

1. Pikachu Carnival Parade
▲ Starting at 4:00 PM on August 14, an extravagantly decorated Pikachu float will appear along Japan Avenue, accompanied by over 100 Pikachu, parading from Elephant Nose Park to Yokohama Park. The roughly one-hour procession will bring festive fun to visitors.

2. Pikachu Spotted at the Bay and in the Sky!*
▲ During the event period, Pikachu will also take to the seas aboard boats, offering lovely views of the Yokohama Harbor 21 area. To catch Pikachu appearing along the harbor, head over daily at 11:00, 12:30, 15:00, and 16:30.
In addition, from 10:00, 12:00, and 15:00 each day during the event, a massive 17-meter-long Pikachu blimp will soar through the skies above Yokohama Harbor 21 — don’t forget to look up and enjoy a totally different view.
3. Pikachu Water Splash Show
▲ When summer gets hot, it’s time to play with water!* This year, a Pikachu water splash show will be held at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, where powerful jets of water will drench you from head to toe. Cute Pikachu performances and giant Pikachu balloon characters will also be on-site for photos.

4. Pikachu Stroll
▲ Around 20 Pikachu will line up in neat formation, marching from Queen’s Square Yokohama to Grand Mall Park, waddling cutely along the way. Don’t miss out on this super-healing sight.
During the event period, Pikachu will also appear at more locations, including JR Sakuragicho Station, Minatomirai Line’s Minatomirai Station, as well as major department stores and attractions around Yokohama.
