Taipei Lantern Festival’s cutest surprise has been officially unveiled. Pokémon fans don’t need to fly to Yokohama, Japan, nor wait until summer to travel far and wide to experience the “Pikachu Outbreak” event. With official Japanese licensing, the live Japanese Pikachu performance will be presented during the 2018 Taipei Lantern Festival’s opening lighting ceremony on February 24, and will also appear after the parade in the post-parade lighting event on March 3. That day will also feature a fan meet-and-greet.

A total of six Pikachu will take part in the Taipei Lantern Festival, representing the physical version of the internationally adored “Pikachu Outbreak.” They will appear during the opening lighting ceremony on the evening of February 24 and again after the parade in the lighting event on the evening of March 3, transforming Taipei West District into a giant Pokémon training ground.

Pikachu is one of the most beloved characters in the Pokémon series

In response to Taipei’s highly anticipated festival event, the official Japanese “Pokémon” franchise is bringing the overseas “Outbreak” activity to the Taipei Lantern Festival for the first time in Asia, and also featuring Pikachu in festive costume performances for the first time ever.

Aside from performing at the Taipei Lantern Festival’s opening lighting ceremony at the Ximen Performance Area on the evening of February 24, Pikachu will also make another appearance after the parade in the lighting event on March 3. A fan meet-and-greet will follow the performance that day, offering fans the chance to interact with Pikachu up close.
