Shibi Forest Recreation Area

Shibi Forest Recreation Area is located at the border of Yunlin, Chiayi, and Nantou counties, northeast of Caoling, at an elevation of about 1,200 meters. It is the highest settlement within the county, belonging to Caoling Village, Gukeng Township. To the northwest, it connects with Xitou and Xialinxi Forest Recreation Areas; to the south lies the Caoling Scenic Area, making it a midpoint on the Caoling–Xi Stream trekking route. The area is filled with lush forests and groves of bamboo, exuding a strong sense of natural wilderness.

Covering an area of approximately 400 hectares, Shibi Forest Recreation Area features continuous cliffs, peculiar rocks, and green pools, all forming a naturally stunning landscape. Notable scenic spots in the area include the Nine Fragrant Tree Sacred Wood, Heart-Linked Pools, Shibi Fairy Valley, and Youlong Lake. Walking trails connect each attraction, lined with shaded paths and refreshed by mountain breezes. Additionally, the area’s unique terrain offers spectacular views. From the triangulation station, visitors can watch the sunrise, gaze at the misty shroud over the cliffs, enjoy sea-of-clouds vistas, admire the sunset and evening glow, and take in panoramic views of Yushan and the central peaks of the Central Mountain Range—truly a breathtaking and magnificent sight.
