To celebrate May Day (Labor Day), Yunlin County Government held a “Family Hiking for Laborers” event in Dapu Community, Gukeng Township, on the 28th, encouraging workers to get outdoors and engage in various sports to take care of their bodies and relieve stress. Over 2,000 unionized workers and their families from Yunlin County participated, celebrating Labor Day in advance.
The “Family Hiking for Laborers” kicked off in the morning at Dapu Community, Gukeng Township. It was jointly presided over by Yunlin Deputy Magistrate Hsieh Shu-ya, Chairman Hsu Si-hung of the Yunlin County Federation of Labor Unions, and Chang Shih-chung, Director of the County Government’s Labor Affairs Bureau. Over 2,000 workers and their families took part in activities including hiking, cycling, brisk walking, and running, enjoying a lively time together as families.
Hsieh Shu-ya said that laborers are not only the breadwinners of their families but also the pillars of social stability, and she expressed her highest respect and gratitude to all labor friends. To achieve a better work-life balance and relieve daily work pressure, the county government encourages laborers to exercise and stay fit, while also enhancing parent-child relationships within labor families. She hopes that laborers and the county government can work together to make Yunlin more progressive and beautiful.
Chang Shih-chung noted that this event was jointly organized by Yunlin County Government and the Yunlin County Federation of Labor Unions. The hiking route started from the Kaitian Temple Plaza and followed the scenic Songbai Creek Hiking Trail. Along the way, participants enjoyed the sounds of insects and birds, as well as a rich variety of native plants. The fresh mountain air also provided workers with full physical and mental nourishment.
The organizers also set up booths at the Kaitian Temple Plaza, including 20 booths offering services such as traditional bone-setting, blind massage, and earthquake disaster prevention experiences, along with a rich program of performances and lucky draw activities. This gave everyone the chance to win prizes while enjoying leisure sports and spending a joyful pre-holiday time with fellow laborers.
