Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal Scenic Area

Established in 2003, the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal Scenic Area is located on the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Plain in western Taiwan. It is bordered by the Niutiao Bay Stream in Yunlin to the north, the Yanshui River to the south, Provincial Highway No. 17 to the east, and the 20-meter isobath offshore to the west. The scenic area spans the administrative regions of Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City. It boasts rich natural resources and a simple, friendly local culture, as well as numerous historic and cultural attractions that have earned widespread acclaim from visitors both domestically and abroad.

The main ecological highlight of the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal Scenic Area is its wetland ecosystems, including ponds, paddy fields, salt pans, estuarine marshes, coastal sandbars, lagoons, and tidal flats. Within the scenic area, there are six major wetlands: Bijia, Puzih River Estuary, Haomeiliao, Beimen, Qigu, and Sicao. Among them, Qigu Wetland is the most renowned, famous for the Black-faced Spoonbill and Qigu Salt Mountain.

In addition to these natural landscapes, the scenic area also features many historic and cultural landmarks, such as the Nankunshen Daitian Temple in Tainan, the Taishe Temple in Budai, Chiayi, the Sicao Fort, and the Zheng Chenggong Memorial Park. These are invaluable historical treasures within the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal Scenic Area.
