Flame Mountain is located at the border of Sanyi Township and Yuanli Town, with the Da’an River to its south. The entire mountain features loose soil that, over time, has been eroded by wind and rain, causing its steep cliffs to gradually wear away. When sunlight shines on the peaks, the view from afar resembles brilliant flames, exuding an awe-inspiring presence.

Flame Mountain is renowned for its barren and rugged scenery. The Masson pine forests found on the mountain constitute a rare and distinctive forest type in China. It was designated as a Natural Reserve by the Council of Agriculture in 1986. Geologically, the Flame Mountain Nature Reserve consists of Pleistocene terrace deposits, a product of intense orogenic activity. Its rock layers are primarily composed of thick gravel beds interbedded with thin layers of sandstone, featuring weak cementation. Due to ongoing weathering and erosion, the terrain is highly fragmented, and the action of rainwater has carved the slopes into extremely smooth surfaces. This has resulted in the formation of sharp peaks and valleys filled with smooth pebbles. Viewed from the south to the north, the landscape appears even more majestic and magnificent. In some of the southern mountain streams, water may be absent, creating the illusion of a river of pebbles. At the valley mouths, “gravel alluvial fans” accumulate, forming a truly unique landform. Especially under the glow of setting sun, the entire mountain glows red, as if flames are dancing.
