New Attraction in Miaoli County: The Scenic Zaoqiao Datian Lakeside Trail

After five years of construction, the 2.6-kilometer Zaoqiao Datian (Longf Lake) Lakeside Trail was officially opened on the morning of October 6, along with the “Summer Stroll: A Walk Around Datian” event, attracting many visitors to be among the first to enjoy the waterfront scenery. Adjacent to Provincial Highway 1, the Dasha Interchange of National Freeway No. 3, and the Miaoli HSR Station, the area enjoys excellent transportation links. Coupled with its beautiful lake and mountain vistas, the completed trail allows the public to immerse themselves in the waterfront, connect with nature, and experience Miaoli’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Zaoqiao Datian Lake covers a vast area of approximately 11 hectares. Nearby are the over 300-year-old Beiji Temple, the 68-year-old Lingtian Zen Temple, and the 42-year-old Longhu Temple, all contributing to the idyllic surroundings. Due to Datian’s expansive waters and surrounding lush mountains, Shen Maoyin, the magistrate of Miaoli during the Qing Dynasty, referred to it as “Maoling Small Sea” in the county annals he compiled, listing it as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Miaoli. The local government holds various events here every year, such as the Pumpkin Art Festival and Arbor Day, making it a key local attraction.
