Strong autumn winds kick off – head to the Miaoli Kite Festival for acrobatic performances

With the strong autumn "jiujiang winds" blowing, it’s time to “fly a kite in the wind”! Now in its third year, the Miaoli Kite Culture Festival takes place on the 19th and 20th at the Riverside Park in Miaoli City. This year, the event invites international kite masters from countries such as Canada and Singapore. Malaysia will present an innovative performance featuring hexagonal kites, while the Macau kite team will showcase the longest luminous kite, “Smiles Across the Sky.” Free wish kites will also be given out on-site.

The Miaoli City Government stated that after autumn arrives, Miaoli experiences strong jiujiang winds, and the vast, flat Riverside Park along the Houlong River provides an ideal environment for kite flying. This year, the festival has gathered foreign experts to show off their impressive stunt kite skills. The Singapore team will present a smiley face formation display, while Macau will exhibit colorful luminous kites. Taiwan will also feature an 88-year-old “kite expert” with 80 years of experience showcasing his skills.

The two-day event also includes kite-making workshops, a “four-person drawing and guessing fun game,” folk performances, and more. On the evening of the 19th, the city government has arranged an “Against the Wind Flying Music Night,” featuring a performance by singer Zhang Yuxia, who impressed on China’s The Voice singing competition, alongside a luminous kite show – sure to be a dazzling spectacle. Visitors are encouraged to take a holiday trip to Miaoli to chase the wind and enjoy Hakka cuisine.
