Taipei International Travel Fair: Consumer Protection Officers on Site Throughout to Provide Consultation and Handle Complaints

The 2013 Taipei International Travel Fair is set to kick off tomorrow. This year’s edition has attracted participants from 60 countries/regions and 900 organizations, with a total of 1,350 booths. Many people are no doubt preparing to "score great deals," but based on past experience, there have been reports of consumer disputes at the fair. To protect consumer rights and implement the "Consumer Protection Officers on the Frontline, Trade Shows Go Go Go" initiative,the Taipei City Department of Legal Affairs has announced that consumer protection officers will be stationed throughout the event to provide consultation and handle complaints..

The Taipei International Travel Fair will run from the 18th to the 21st, with venues at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 and Hall 3. The Taipei City Department of Legal Affairs stated that to implement the "Consumer Protection Officers on the Frontline, Trade Shows Go Go Go" initiative, consumer protection officers will conduct consumer protection inspections in coordination with relevant authorities during the fair and will be stationed on-site throughout business hours to provide consumer protection consultations and handle consumer complaints.

Chen Hsin-cheng, Director of the Consumer Protection Division at the Department of Legal Affairs, said that among the exhibitors at this year’s travel fair, 15 businesses have previously violated regulations at other travel fairs. In response, the department sent letters on the 15th, urging these vendors to pay attention and strictly comply with the Consumer Protection Act. Chen pointed out that if the department or related authorities discover any violations on-site, they will require the businesses to immediately cease selling the related products and issue consumer alerts without delay. Members of the public who encounter any issues at the exhibition venue are also welcome to report them to the stationed consumer protection officers and relevant authorities.
