Tsuen Wan Plaza, Hong Kong

Tsuen Wan Plaza (English: Tsuen Wan Plaza) is a large shopping mall in Tsuen Wan District, New Territories, Hong Kong, covering an area of over 580,000 square feet. Although Tsuen Wan Plaza is not located near Tsuen Wan Station, it became a landmark in the district during the 1990s due to the lack of major shopping centers in Tsuen Wan at that time. The mall was developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties in 1990, with department store Jusco and Broadway Cinema opening in 1991, and the mall officially opening in February 1992. Between 2005 and 2009, Tsuen Wan Plaza underwent a major renovation project.

Some of the “veteran” shops in Tsuen Wan Plaza have catered well to the preferences of local residents, enjoying brisk business—for example, the basement-level East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, IKEA Home Furnishings (which closed on August 28, 2005), Broadway Cinema (opened December 1990), Jusco (April 1991 – October 2012, later relocated to Bayview Plaza and renamed AEON), and McDonald’s (opened in 1993). In addition, the rooftop food court introduced after the 2006 renovation has provided residents and visitors with a wide range of choices (see image on the right). The mall currently houses over 160 shops. Trendy fashion outlets occupy about 22% of the total floor area, with 28 restaurants taking up 25%. Initially, the mall featured more budget-friendly stores, but it now mainly targets mid- to high-end consumers. For example, earlier affordable dining options such as Maxim’s MX, Yoshinoya, McDonald’s, Häagen-Dazs, Tung Tung Wanton Noodles, Tak Wah Roast Meats, and Farmhouse Restaurant have all closed or relocated, except for McDonald’s. Most of the current dining outlets are mid- to high-end, including new tenants like Ruby Tuesday, Michelin-recommended restaurant Sun Duk Kee, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, the self-service udon specialty store Marugame Seimen (offering Sanuki udon), as well as upcoming openings such as Yamatoya, IKI Teppanyaki, and Japanese dining-style teppanyaki.

The mall also features three district-first double-storey flagship stores, totaling 30,000 square feet of retail space, which have been leased to Muji, Bershka, and Pull & Bear, with expected openings throughout the year. In addition to family customers, the mall also targets style-conscious young adults with spending power. For the first time, the mall has introduced the Flash Retailing (also known as Pop-up Store) concept as part of its marketing strategy, collaborating with various trendy brands through short-term leases to offer customers a fresh and exciting experience.

Mall Logo

The Tsuen Wan Plaza logo consists of a red “T” and a blue “W.” This logo was established as early as 1992 and could previously be seen at the mall entrance, but it can now only be viewed from the residential section (rooftop) of Tsuen Wan Plaza.
