I recently read a book called "Wanderer in the Mountains" and realized that I hadn’t exercised or picked up my camera in a long time. So, during the holidays, I chose an easy hiking trail to breathe in some nature and give myself a break. Speaking of hiking, the hiking craze in Hong Kong has been getting more intense in recent years. Many people challenge themselves with difficult routes just for the beautiful views. But I know my physical limits, so I opted for an easy trail—just a relaxing little journey.
Shek Lung Kung is located along the Yu Tsuen Ancient Trail. It takes about 30 minutes of walking uphill from the Tsuen Wan Adventist Hospital to reach the pavilion. Most of the path is paved with concrete, so it’s not too tough. As for me? When I got tired, I’d sit down, then walk a bit more, take some photos, and it took me over an hour to reach the pavilion at Shek Lung Kung!
The most special thing about Shek Lung Kung is that you can take in the views of both the Tsing Ma Bridge and the Ting Kau Bridge all at once. For more scenic photos, you can check out the travel channel on DCFever. On the day I hiked up, there was quite a bit of fog, so I didn’t even wait for the sunset before heading back.
What insights did I gain from reaching the mountaintop? I haven’t figured that out yet. But I came up here this time because I wanted to reflect on what kind of person I want to be. Just enjoying the breeze, reading a book, and slowly listening to my own inner voice—that’s all it is. But I also want to remind everyone: hike within your limits. If you’re a beginner, choose a beginner’s route. Don’t push yourself for the sake of the view—otherwise, you might put yourself and others in danger.
