The Helan Mountain Agricultural and Pastoral Ecotourism Area is located in the Nuquan section on the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, 40 kilometers from Yinchuan City. It borders Sand Lake to the north and the Western Film Studio to the south. Invested in and constructed in 2001 by the Ningxia Helan Mountain Halal Beef and Mutton Group, it officially opened in August 2007. Built against the backdrop of undulating ancient Han Dynasty tombs, it has now developed distinctive agricultural and pastoral sightseeing attractions including the Sheep Culture Museum, World Famous Sheep Museum, Shepherd’s Home, Mosque, Thousand-Mu Orchard, Recreational Fishing Center, and the Helan Mountain Agricultural and Pastoral Homestead Garden. Here, the Sheep Culture Museum showcases the integration of sheep culture with human civilization. It offers insights into the origins, development, applications, and contributions of sheep culture; activities such as sheep fighting performances allow you to witness the bravery and majesty of these animals; you can also admire the vastness of desolate smoke in the desert and the setting sun over the long river, as well as the towering, cloud-piercing grandeur of the majestic Helan Mountains. Here, the seemingly endless, rolling hills of the Han Dynasty tomb clusters transport you… back to ancient battlefields filled with the neighing of warhorses, clashing weapons, and thunderous battle cries; Emperor Wu of Han donning armor to campaign against the Xiongnu in the north; Huo Qubing battling at Yanzi Mountain; the “Flying General” Li Guang boosting troop morale on his western campaigns and achieving remarkable feats; the Western Xia King assembling his troops to resist the Yuan army. The past drifts like smoke — each event, each historically renowned scene, the brutal warfare where soldiers were buried in horse hides, evokes a profound sense of tragedy and desolation.
