Xiandonggou

Located 25 kilometers west of the urban area at the southern foot of the Lüliang Mountains, it covers a total area of over 10 square kilometers. It was among the first group of scenic spots announced by the People's Government of Shanxi Province in 1987. The area features 48 cultural and natural attractions, consisting of three major ancient architectural complexes: South Fairy Cave, North Fairy Cave, and Yunwu Temple. The site is dotted with mythical traces, serene stone caves, and uniquely shaped mountains, offering breathtaking scenery that changes with the seasons, resulting in ever-evolving landscapes. Major attractions include: Sleeping Fairy Peak, which resembles a fairy lying at rest; Immortal Mirror Stone and Dressing Table where Yao’s consort, the Deer Fairy, used to groom herself, as well as the Punished Immortal Ladder and Immortal Millstone; the Immortals' Gathering Terrace where the Eight Immortals met; the Self-Sacrifice Cliff where Han Xiangzi sacrificed himself to become immortal; the Big and Small Black Dragon Pools where the Black Dragon resided; the Horse Hoof Shovel and South Heaven Gate left behind when Emperor Gaozu of Tang, Li Yuan, narrowly escaped danger in the fairy cave; the General’s Pillar, General’s Hat, and Horse Tethering Post left by Qin Qiong while rescuing Li Yuan; numerous relics from Emperor Zhao Kuangyin of the Song Dynasty, who visited the fairy cave three times, including Songwang Stone, Steamed Bun Ridge, Eighteen Bends, Lion Flat, and Leopard Elm; the Fairy Coffin said to have fallen when the Goddess of the Youyu Mountain became immortal; the Chessboard Stone where Emperor Yao taught his son Danzhu to play chess; within North China’s largest barrier valley, attractions such as Dragon Beard Waterfall, Giant Python Cave, and Ghost Gate Pass abound; as well as Half-Immortal Cave, Sleeping Immortal Cave, Ruyi Valley, and Deer Valley.
