The Temple of Duke Du is a cultural tourism attraction.

“Temple of Duke Du” — This temple is located in the old town area of Xiashan. It was bestowed by the emperor when Zhou Guanghao, an official from Taixi Village in Xiashan who served as Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, retired in 1606 during the Ming Dynasty’s 34th year of the Wanli reign, in recognition of his diligent governance, love for the people, and achievements in quelling rebellions. The people of Chaoshan refer to Zhou Guanghao as Duke Zhou, and thus the temple is called the “Temple of Duke Du.” Covering an area of over 1,000 square meters with a built-up area of more than 800 square meters, the temple faces east and is backed by the west, featuring a traditional earthen structure with three halls and two courtyards. Its upturned eaves and screen wall are exquisitely carved. In 1992, overseas Chinese and descendants of the Zhou family raised over 2 million yuan to restore the temple to its original appearance. A 2.6-meter-tall statue of Zhou Guanghao, crafted by the Chao’an Arts and Crafts Factory with fiberglass used internally and coated with traditional lacquer and gold leaf on the outside, replaced the original shrine and was placed in the third hall.
