Ciyun Temple in Xinzhuang
Ciyun Temple in Xinzhuang is a protected cultural heritage site of Tianjin Municipality.
Ciyun Temple in Xinzhuang is located in Gaozhuangzi Village, Xinzhuang Town, Jinnan District, Tianjin, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.
Xinzhuang Town in Jinnan District has a village called Gaozhuangzi, which was once a large village with over 3,000 residents. Two things from Gaozhuangzi are widely talked about by locals. First, in 1908, a wealthy merchant named Li Deqing founded the first “Li Family Private Primary School” within Tianjin County in Gaozhuangzi, marking the beginning of modern rural education in Tianjin and gaining widespread fame. The other, lesser-known fact is that our beloved late Premier Zhou Enlai, during his time at Nankai School, visited Gaozhuangzi several times to rehearse plays and play basketball. Additionally, after the village was relocated in 2009, one historic site remains: the over 380-year-old Ciyun Temple.
Upon entering the village, now largely deserted due to relocation, one can spot from afar a dilapidated structure — Ciyun Temple. From the outside, the temple walls show extensive peeling and partial collapse.
On January 5, 2013, the Tianjin Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the fourth batch of Tianjin Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
