Introduction The Zheng Family Courtyard is located in Gegu Town. Completed during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, it earned its name as it was the residence of the Zheng family. Covering an area of 6,000 square meters, it consists of six traditional Chinese courtyards, along with two additional wings on the east and west sides. The complex includes cellars, corner towers, and a total of over a hundred rooms. Pathways run through the courtyards, and moon gates connect one courtyard to another, forming a nested layout of large and small courtyards. The courtyard walls are adorned with stone carvings of animals and plants. All the buildings are of brick-and-wood construction, featuring gray tiles on blue bricks, front porches, and rear verandas. The craftsmanship is exquisite, and the materials used are of high quality — all bricks and tiles were fired in a single kiln, wood materials are all either red or white pine, and stones are fine bluish-gray slabs. The entire structure is built with precisely fitted bricks, grouted with rice paste, and features painted beams and carved rafters, colorful painted decorations. It is renowned as the second-largest residential complex in North China, alongside the Shi Family Courtyard in Yangliuqing, and has been listed as a district-level cultural heritage site.
