The former site of Zhou Enlai’s activities at the Nanyue Guerrilla Cadre Training Class — Orchard of Yuying Middle School

The former site of Zhou Enlai’s activities at the Nanyue Guerrilla Cadre Training Class (referred to as the Nanyue Guerrilla Cadre Training Class), located within the orchard of Yuying Middle School in Hengshan County, was originally a three-section house with blue bricks and tiles.

In 1939, the Communist Party and the Kuomintang jointly held the Nanyue Guerrilla Cadre Training Class in Nanyue, which was the outcome of the first military conference of the Nationalist Government in Nanyue and also a great initiative during the War of Resistance.

On April 18, Zhou Enlai returned from inspecting the New Fourth Army and came specially to the Nanyue Guerrilla Cadre Training Class in his capacity as Deputy Minister of the Political Department of the Military Commission of the National Government to inspect the work. He visited Ye Jianying and all members of the CCP delegation in the Juying Garden, listened to their reports, and gave instructions on the war situation and the tasks of the training class. In the evening, he stayed in this house within the orchard of Yuying Middle School.

Today, this house has been expanded from the original three sections to four, with the original back door serving as the main entrance, while the original front door has become the back door. Even so, the original appearance can still be discerned.
