Shuifu Tourist Area

Shuifu Tourist Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Hunan Shuifu Tourist Area is situated in Qizi Town, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, at the center of three major tourist regions—Shaoshan, Nanyue, and Zhangjiajie. It spans a planned area of 177.2 km², including a water surface area of 45 km² and a reservoir capacity of 560 million m³. The Xiang–Qian electrified railway passes by the area, and the Shang-Rui Expressway crosses through it, providing highly convenient land and water transport as well as outstanding transport and location advantages.

The tourist area boasts a favorable ecological environment, home to nearly a thousand species of precious flora and various Class II nationally protected animals. Historical relics along the reservoir have also endowed Shuifu Tourist Area with profound cultural heritage. There are multiple national and provincial-level cultural heritage sites within the area, having given rise to historical figures such as Zeng Guofan, Chen Geng, Xiao San, Huang Gonglue, Song Xilian, and Luo Zhongzhou. The excavation of the provincial cultural relic protection site—the Song Dynasty Kiln Ruins—filled a historical gap of no known Song kilns in southern China. The tourist area features 12 first-tier attractions, 40 second-tier attractions, 17 third-tier attractions, and 7 fourth-tier attractions. Numerous large and small islands are scattered across the landscape. Sites such as the “Shuifu Stone Forest,” ancient vines that are thousands of years old, and rocks that are tens of thousands of years old, together with the clear water, serene mountains, unique stones, mysterious caves, beautiful islands, and winding reservoir inlets, form a breathtaking ecological paradise.

In 2007, the tourist area was selected as one of the “New Eight Scenic Spots of Xiaoxiang” in the eco-leisure category. In 2008, it was designated as an eco-leisure and resort service base for the Changsha–Zhuzhou–Xiangtan urban agglomeration. In 2010, it was rated as a national “AAA”-level tourist attraction. Now, Shuifu is striving toward its goal of becoming “China’s premier lakeside leisure town.”

Qizi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xiangtan City. Established as Qizi Township in 1956, upgraded to a commune in 1962, and became a town in 1984. Located in the southwestern part of the city, it covers an area of 128.6 square kilometers with a population of 53,000. The town government is stationed in Qiziqiao. The Xiang–Qian Railway and the Xiang (Shi)–Lou (di) Highway pass through the area.
