Jianli Museum
Jianli Museum is a patriotic education base.
Jianli Museum was approved for establishment in April 1980 by the Jianli County Establishment Committee, began preparations for its building in late 1982, held trial exhibitions in the second half of 1985, and officially opened to the public in November 1986. The museum is located at No. 2 Yanjiang Avenue, Rongcheng Town, Jianli County, Hubei Province, covering an area of 14,000 square meters. Its main structures consist of three classical-style buildings: the gate tower, the exhibition hall, and the Pan’e Stele Corridor. The gate tower features three tiers of upturned eaves and bracket sets, with four golden characters “Qing Shi Yong Chui” (Glory to History) inscribed on the lintel, written by Marshal Xu Xiangqian. The exhibition hall, situated in the center of the museum compound, has overlapping upturned eaves, a central dome, and yellow glazed tiles, embodying a blend of ancient and modern, Chinese and Western styles that create a harmonious aesthetic. The Pan’e Stele Corridor is located on the west side of the compound. Its layout and architectural style reflect both the garden aesthetics of the Jiangnan water towns and the classical charm of Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. From April 1980 to September 1986, Zhou Chongfa served as the director of the Jianli County Revolutionary History Museum. From October 1986 to April 1997, Wang Weiqing held the position. From May 1997 to April 1998, Sun Jianhua served as acting director. From May 1998 to April 2002, Bie Bingyan acted as party secretary while fulfilling the duties of the director. Since May 2002, Sun Jianhua has been the director.
The exhibition area of Jianli Museum totals 900 square meters, divided into four exhibition halls. The first and second halls are on the first floor, displaying revolutionary relics and historical materials from the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, when proletarian revolutionaries such as He Long, Zhou Yiqun, and Duan Dechang established the Western Hunan-Hubei Revolutionary Base. The third and fourth halls are on the second floor, showcasing the historical evolution of Jianli and its folk cultural artifacts. A total of 1,560 items (sets) are exhibited, including important collections such as: a fossilized elephant molar, a - machine, a homemade cannon, a flared-mouth pot, a bronze seal of the Bai’luo Jetty Patrol Office, a bronze seated Buddha statue, the “Proclamation to the Masses in Support of the Red Army for Armed Uprising,” and belongings of the wrongly executed “Reorganization Faction.”
