Site of Bigongtai

The Site of Bigongtai is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

The Site of Bigongtai is located 80 meters south of Hujia Bay in Qian Village, Maochen Town. It is a Neolithic site covering an area of approximately 25,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 2 to 2.5 meters thick. Trial excavations were conducted in 1981. Stone tools unearthed include axes and adzes; pottery is mainly gray clay pottery with some black and red clay pottery. Decorative patterns include cord marks, finger-impressed patterns, and added coil patterns; vessel types comprise tripods, dou (stemmed bowls), basins, utensils, straight-sided cups, bowls, and spinning whorls, among others. It belongs to the Longshan Culture. The Site of Bigongtai was designated as part of the third batch of key cultural relic protection units by the Provincial People's Government in 1992.
