Sunjiagang Site in Ye County

The Sunjiagang Site in Ye County is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

The site is situated on the second terrace on the north bank of the Kunshui River, about 1,000 meters north of Lizhuang Village, Xicaiyuan Village, Kunyang Town, Ye County. It spans 650 meters from north to south and 260 meters from east to west, with a total area of 170,000 square meters. The cultural layer is 2–3.6 meters thick and includes artifacts such as three-legged bowls, flared-rim jars, and arc-bladed stone spades from the Peiligang period; ding (tripods), jars, basins, bowls, and red-topped bowls from the Yangshao period; basins, ding, jars, and urns from the Longshan period; and pottery dou (tripod vessels), jars, ding, and hollow bricks from the Warring States and Han periods. Production tools such as stone axes, spades, chisels, sickles, and shell sickles have also been unearthed at the site.

The site covers a large area, contains abundant relics, and spans a long period of time, and is currently well-preserved. It holds significant scientific value for the study of the origin and development of Chinese civilization. In 1999, it was designated as a key cultural heritage site under provincial protection in Henan Province.

Core Protection Zone: Boundaries are defined by the edges of the terrace; digging or any form of construction work is prohibited.

General Protection Zone: The northern boundary extends to the Ye-Lu Highway, while the eastern, western, and southern boundaries extend 100 meters outward from the edge of the terrace.

Kunyang Subdistrict: Kunyang Town is located in the county seat and serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of Ye County. It covers an area of 9 square kilometers, with 1,342 mu of arable land, and administers 7 neighborhood committees, 34 villager groups, and has a population of 13,243.

Kunyang Town is a historic town. As early as 350 BC, the State of Wei established the settlement of Kunyang here, which later came under the Qin Dynasty and was officially named Kunyang County, continuing through the Western Han Dynasty. Its long history has endowed it with rich cultural heritage.
