Adjacent to Tokyo, Chiba Prefecture boasts attractions such as Narita International Airport — Japan’s gateway — and Tokyo Disneyland Resort, beloved by Taiwanese tourists. In fact, Chiba is also well known for its Japanese sake. To recommend Chiba’s century-old breweries and fine sakes to Taiwanese foodies, Chiba Governor Morita Kensaku specially visited Taiwan, joining Chef Eu Zihao — the first person in the Chinese-speaking world to earn the title of Japanese Sake Lecturer — to promote the captivating charm of Chiba’s premium brews.

Surrounded by sea on three sides, Chiba is where the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents converge, yielding top-grade lobsters and an abundance of fish and seafood. Chef Eu Zihao, who holds qualifications as both a sake sommelier and Japanese sake quality appraiser, specially designed dishes paired with various Chiba specialties — from appetizers redolent with oceanic aroma and seasonally fresh katsuo no nukazuke (bonito dried overnight) to wild lobster seafood...<,搭配上来自千叶县三家酒藏的美酒,每道都让酒客们的味蕾增添美味层次。

Governor Morita stated that although Chiba offers a diverse array of fine sakes, their recognition overseas remains limited. He hopes that through this visit to Taiwan and collaboration with the Japanese sake lecturer, the allure of Chiba’s sake can be promoted via seasonal seafood dishes, with the aspiration that more Taiwanese gourmets will come to love Chiba’s sake in the future.

"Getting to Know Chiba Prefecture’s Fine Sakes"
The sake tasting event invited presidents from three representative Chiba breweries — “Iinuma Honke,” “Tōkun Shuzo,” and “Kangiku Meiryō” — to share their brewing experiences and insights with Taiwanese enthusiasts of Japanese travel and cuisine. Breweries in Chiba are all committed to the art of sake-making, hoping that every visitor to the prefecture can fully enjoy the sake produced amid the rich natural environment of the Boso Peninsula.
Q1. What makes Chiba Prefecture’s sake so delicious?
A1. Japan has distinct four seasons and a diverse climate and environment. Delicate products like sake strongly reflect the unique characteristics of specific regions. In the case of Chiba Prefecture, its warm climate, pure and delicious water quality, and the naturally abundant Boso Peninsula provide an environment where many distinctive local sakes can be brewed.
Q2. What was the most challenging aspect of this event?
A2. The most challenging aspect of this event is that currently, the sake produced in Chiba Prefecture does not have high name recognition overseas. Although it features unique qualities and many brands, more efforts are still needed in this regard. Therefore, we hope to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to let media members and bloggers taste it for themselves. We believe that once you’ve tried it, you’ll be able to appreciate the charm of Chiba’s sake.
Q3. Does sake from Chiba Prefecture get exported to other countries?
A3. Yes. Among over 30 breweries, about one-third have experience exporting. Many different brands of Chiba sake are now also available for purchase in Taiwan. In the future, we hope to further promote Chiba sake to more countries through additional events and promotional activities.
