Versatile Tokyo is not only the most desired Japanese travel destination for many, but also a city that sees repeated visits. Beyond popular urban spots like Shinjuku, Ginza, and Asakusa, the Tokyo Disney Resort-led hot springs and suburban tourism extending from Tokyo to Chiba Prefecture are extremely popular. The “Lohas Chiba Tourism & Food Sharing Event,” hosted by Chiba Prefecture Government, will take place this Sunday (Nov 4). Visitors can sample three of Chiba’s famous foods: damp senbei, loquat jelly, and sweets from the historic Narita Mountain confectionery shop “Sakaeya Wagashi.”

The “Lohas Chiba Tourism & Food Sharing Event” will be held this Sunday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Boncafé Nanjing No. 1 Store (at the intersection of Nanjing East Road and Jianguo North Road in Taipei). In addition to revealing fun and delicious sightseeing spots and food around Tokyo’s suburbs, the event will also invite university students who earned experience tour guide qualifications this summer and traveled to the area to share their travel stories. There will also be exclusive reveals on popular destinations such as the world-renowned Tokyo Disney Resort, Naritasan Shinshoji Temple which attracts 13 million visitors for New Year prayers each year, and the Edo-style atmosphere of Furusato Village.

At the highly anticipated tasting session, you can try Chiba’s famous damp senbei, loquat jelly, and “Sakaeya Wagashi” sweets. Additionally, the recent trend in Japan of “damp senbei + Chōshi Electric Railway” has its roots in Chiba Prefecture. Damp senbei—grilled rice crackers dipped in soy sauce—has a uniquely delicious texture, and when paired with the touching story of saving an antique railway from being scrapped, it becomes even more enjoyable.
Surrounded by sea on three sides, Chiba Prefecture enjoys a relatively warm climate year-round, is abundant in hot springs and seafood, and has long been a top weekend getaway choice for Tokyo residents. Families can choose from popular destinations such as the Tokyo Disney Resort, just a 15-minute train ride from Tokyo Station, or the Mother Farm, home to vast fields and animals. The Edo-style Furusato Village and Sawara Water Town are also highly recommended tourist spots.
