Diaoyu Island (Danglang Island)

- (i.e., Danglang Island), is one of the uninhabited islands in Changdao County, Shandong Province. It covers a land area of 0.13 square kilometers, with a coastline of over 1,860 meters and a maximum elevation of 36 meters. To the north, it faces the Changshan International Waterway and the islands of Gaoshan and Tuojii; to the east, it borders the Pearl Gate Channel and the scenic areas of Jiuzhang Cliff and Crescent Bay; to the west, it overlooks the Pagoda Gate Channel and Pagoda Reef, Dragon Claw Mountain Scenic Area; and to the south, it lies near Miaodao Pond, Menglang Island, and Miaodao Xianying Palace. Climbing onto the island and looking around, you’ll find yourself surrounded by breathtaking scenery—every corner a living landscape painting. It is truly a pearl inlaid by nature in the Bohai Strait.

The island was developed into a tourist scenic area in 2000. This scenic spot encapsulates a variety of natural landscapes found in the strait, bringing together cliffs, reefs, caves, beaches, and bays unique to Changdao. In spring and early summer, visitors can also observe unique sights such as groups of seals swimming, playing, and resting on the reefs. Beyond its stunning natural beauty, the area boasts abundant aquatic resources, serving as an ideal habitat for abalones, sea cucumbers, conches, scallops, crabs, seaweed, and various fish and shrimp. Leveraging these exceptional natural conditions, the scenic area offers a range of distinctive tourism activities. Here, you can catch crabs, collect snails, gather seaweed, and pick colorful stones; swim, boat, have a beachside barbecue, and savor fresh seafood; stay with local fishing families, enjoy marine recreation, and join fishermen in their catches; or engage in various fishing activities including platform pole fishing, rowboat side fishing, longline drifting fishing, and cage-fixed point fishing. In short, you can fully immerse yourself in the sunshine, sandy beaches, seawater, green mountains, and fresh air; experience the simple and rustic life of fishing communities; and enjoy the boundless pleasures described as “the drinker’s heart is not in the cup, but in the beauty of mountains and waters.”

Transportation

You can rent a speedboat or fishing boat at the fishing port on the north side of the Changdao Port breakwater, or join a maritime tour route to get there.
