The century-old railway park in Pier-2’s Penglai Area has a new nighttime attraction starting today. This large-scale new media art project, titled “Hama Starlight Mission,” invited 12 artist teams including Yao Chung-han, Yeh Ting-hao, Huang Yi-ching, Lin Li-jin, Chang Yung-ta, Wang Lien-sheng, Wang Fu-ruei, Chi Po-hao, Cheng Hsien-yu, Lo Her-lin, Hu Chin-hsiang, and the Korean team ADHD to participate in its creation. Covering an area of nearly 7 hectares in the railway park, the installation uses over 20,000 meters of LED light strips embedded with more than 600,000 high-brightness LED beads. The lights flow along the railway synchronized with music, creating a fantastical fusion of visual and auditory experiences.
The best viewing spot is the Red Bridge in Pier-2’s Penglai Area.
The Hama Starlight Mission, a large-scale landscape light art display, runs from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM every evening, with a new segment every half hour. Visitors can walk among the railway tracks to observe the changing light and shadows, or climb up to the Red Bridge for a panoramic view.
The old railway next to the Penglai Warehouse of Pier-2 was completed in 1908. The radiating tracks, together with the harbor warehouses and port, form a unique sea-land transport system that tells the century-long history of Kaohsiung Port. It is also a cultural landscape that best showcases the modernization of harbor operations. In the future, different artists will continue to be invited to create ever-changing light displays.
