The much-loved 7th Bao’er Dajiaodong On-Site 3D Creation Event — “Kaohsiung Folks Are Here — City Character Creation Special Exhibition” will be exhibited at Warehouse B7 in the Penglai District from March 2 to March 31. This edition has invited five emerging artists to create on-site, giving new looks to five sets of worker and fisherwoman figurines, welcoming them as new members of the “Kaohsiung Folks” big family. Meanwhile, the exhibition also showcases photos of the figurines painted during the past six editions, with over 60 pieces of work displayed alongside the ongoing on-site creations. All members of the “Kaohsiung Folks” gather together, bridging the past and present, presented in full view to the audience.

The Bao’er Dajiaodong worker and fisherwoman figurines, set up along the bike path, have become a popular photo spot for visitors. However, due to long-term outdoor display, some of the figurines have faded or been damaged and needed refurbishment before being repainted. As a result, during this period, some old family members have “disappeared temporarily,” while new ones have been born. The 7th “Kaohsiung Folks Are Here — City Character Creation Special Exhibition” will introduce five new members in various forms, continuing the growth of the figurine family. This allows returning visitors to Bao’er to see worker and fisherwoman figurines in different designs, offering a unique visual experience as if changing with the seasons.

The 7th “Kaohsiung Folks Are Here — City Character Creation Special Exhibition” invites five contemporary emerging artists: Lin Shujie, Zhang Cilun + Wu Zhirong, Huang Yuxuan, Huang Boxun, and Cai Jieshen to create works. These five artists use their creativity to reinterpret the image of “Kaohsiung” from unique perspectives and with profound meanings. Zhang Cilun and Wu Zhirong, with the theme “Wandering the Harbor City,” transform the “Worker” and “Fisherwoman” figurines into representations of “Northern Kaohsiung” and “Southern Kaohsiung,” using solid hand-drawing techniques to depict major landmarks of Kaohsiung on the figurines. Meanwhile, Huang Yuxuan and Cai Jieshen present the spirit and attitude of “Kaohsiung folks” from different angles, showcasing the diverse facets of “Kaohsiung people.”

In addition, some artists expand the theme of “Kaohsiung” to broader issues such as “city” and “island,” expressed through the spirit of contemporary art. Lin Shujie, with the theme “Balcony Urban Civilization,” reflects deeply on the excessive development of modern cities. Huang Boxun’s “Stories from Afar” transforms imagery belonging to the “Taiwanese island” into visual symbols, weaving “stories from afar” and shaping a unique urban landscape.
