Fengshan Park

Fengshan is the highest point on Changdao Island. It got its name from the beacon towers built during the Ming Dynasty by the famous anti-pirate general Qi Jiguang to guard against Japanese pirates invading from the sea. Covering a total area of 300 acres, Fengshan Park serves as a natural “rest stop” for migratory birds traveling between north and south China. It is home to over 40 species of birds under national first and second-class protection, including 156 of the 227 bird species protected under the Sino-Japanese Migratory Bird Protection Agreement.

Nowadays, visitors to the island commonly refer to it as Eagle Mountain because of the large eagle sculpture at the mountaintop. From afar, the eagle looks incredibly lifelike, with wings spread as if ready to take flight, symbolizing the soaring development of Changdao in the era of reform. In 1988, the state established a migratory bird protection center on the northern side of the mountain. In May of the same year, Changdao was designated as a nature reserve by the State Council. The secondary peak of Fengshan hosts a bird exhibition hall, marked by a plaque reading “Bird Pavilion Soaring Above.” Inside, the hall displays over 200 specimens of various bird species native to Changdao. In recent years, the museum has also raised animals such as eagles and swans for visitors to observe, along with more than 100 venomous snakes.

Transportation

Getting to the Island

To reach Changdao Island, you must first go to Penglai. Ferries depart from Penglai Port to the island. Ferries operate from 6:00 to 18:30, with departures approximately every 20–30 minutes. The one-way fare is 30 RMB per person, and the round-trip fare is 60 RMB per person.

Island Transportation

Chartered Car: Although taxis are available on the island, chartering a car offers better value for money when traveling between various scenic spots.

Bicycle: Many local fishing families rent out bicycles. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can rent one from them.

Tickets

The Changdao Scenic Area All-in-One Pass costs 180 RMB (valid for three days) and includes access to Jiuzhang Cliff, Half Moon Bay, Wangfu Reef, Fairyland Source, Fengshan, and Forest Sea Park.

The North Route All-in-One Pass costs 120 RMB (valid for two days) and covers Jiuzhang Cliff, Crescent Bay, and Wangfu Reef.

The South Route All-in-One Pass costs 120 RMB (valid for two days) and includes Forest Sea Park, Fengshan Park, and Fairyland Source.

A combined ticket for Fengshan Park and Forest Sea Park is available for 50 RMB per person.
