Wulin Shangshui Gate is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

Wulin Shangshui Gate was first constructed in the ninth year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1376) and functioned as a key passage for the Huai River, the “mother river” of Dengzhou, to flow into the city. The structure is made up of three identical arched gateways, which were originally outfitted with sluice gates—the slots for these gates can still be seen today. In front of the gateways, huge rectangular stones were laid in a wedge shape to divert water and reduce the impact of the current. This design remains well-preserved and represents a uniquely distinctive hydraulic gate facility in ancient Chinese architecture. In 2009, the city’s cultural relics bureau carried out protective restoration work on the site. In 2013, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.

Wulin Community: The Wulin Community Residents' Committee is located in the northeastern part of Zijingshan Subdistrict Office, covering an area of 213.7 mu of arable land and a population of 3,400. Yang Wulin from this village, who was a soldier in the Eighth Route Army, designated the area around Nantianmen as Wulin Village in 1942.
