The Rizhao Lighthouse Scenic Area is named after the lighthouse located within it. To the north, the area connects to the Wanpingkou Seaside Scenic Area, the World Sailing Championship Base, and the Water Sports Base; to the south lies Rizhao Port, China’s second-largest coal-exporting terminal.

The scenic area was opened to visitors in May 2005. Its planning and design scheme was awarded to an American EDSA company, with landscape design carried out by Shenzhen Beilinyuan Landscape & Planning Design Co., Ltd., and overall renovation undertaken by the Rizhao Municipal Construction Commission. The total area of the scenic spot is approximately 500,000 square meters, divided into three main functional zones: seaside leisure, hotel resort services, and specialty commerce.

The lighthouse tourist scenic area features a 2-kilometer coastline, home to a rare natural reef cluster on China’s northern shores. In the hot summer, visitors can play by the reefs, swim, or go diving to collect sea snails and crabs. During autumn and winter, visitors can enjoy the sea view and listen to the waves from the shore. With its seamless blend of sea and sky, the picturesque scenery attracts crowds year-round, making it a perfect spot for sea viewing, wave listening, and watching the sunrise. The area welcomes around 2 million visitors annually.

City Bus: Take Bus No. 1 or No. 33 and get off at Dengta Square Station.

Self-Driving Guide:

Jinan to Rizhao: (1) → Ridian Expressway → Rizhao Exit; (2) Jiqing South Line → Exit at Anqiu/Wulian → Turn left and drive straight south for about 30 minutes to Wulian Outer East Ring Road → Turn left at the gas station onto Provincial Highway 334 and drive straight for about 20 kilometers to Chaoshi Highway (look for the “Rizhao” road sign) → Follow the signs to arrive.
