Situated in the beautiful coastal city of Rizhao, within the Shanhaiguan Tourist Resort area, Wangjiazhao Folk Tourism Resort lies along the Yellow Sea to the east, adjacent to the Rizhao Seaside China Forest Park to the north, and neighboring the Wanpingkou Seaside Eco-Tourism Area to the south. Blessed with breathtaking scenery and a pleasant climate—no harsh winters or scorching summers, with an average yearly temperature of 12.6°C—it is an ideal destination for leisure vacations, sightseeing, and summer escapes.

Wangjiazhao Village was once a coastal fishing village primarily engaged in the fishing industry.

Since 1998, the village has adjusted its industrial structure, leveraging its coastal location and convenient transportation. Using Rizhao’s Third Seaside Bathing Beach as a foundation, it developed coastal tourism.

In 1993, over 3 million yuan was invested to renovate the bathing beach.

In 1998, the folk tourism resort was established.

In June 1999, a fishing-style cultural tour themed “Live with fishermen, play on the sea” was launched.

Starting from October 2001, with strong support from municipal and district governments, the village received successive investments of 6.8 million yuan to build a folk culture square and a large parking lot for tourist recreation and rest. The resort’s environment improved significantly. After three years of development, Wangjiazhao Folk Tourism Village has grown into the country’s largest professional tourism village—featuring a beautiful, clean, and safe environment with simple and hospitable locals. It integrates dining, accommodation, sightseeing, and bathing, and can accommodate over 3,000 guests at the same time.

To accelerate the development of folk tourism, in May 2002, the Wangjiazhao Folk Tourism Reception Center was established. It offers visitors a one-stop service including dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, bathing, and entertainment. It also introduced tourism activities such as “sailing out to sea, casting nets to catch fish, beachcombing and fishing, and island exploration.” Visitors can experience the life of fishermen and enjoy the maritime scenery. As night falls, bonfires are lit on the beach, where guests can sing and dance facing the sea, truly embracing the ocean, reconnecting with nature, and relaxing both body and mind.

Wangjiazhao Folk Village consists of 106 households and 316 residents. It was formerly a coastal fishing village mainly focused on the catching of marine products. Since 1999, the village has restructured its industry, fully utilizing its proximity to the sea and main roads. Relying on the Third Seaside Bathing Beach, it developed fishing-style folk tourism and became a nationally renowned folk tourism village. In 2002, Wangjiazhao Folk Village underwent comprehensive planning. After three years of development, it has transformed into a well-known, large-scale professional tourism village known for its beautiful environment, cleanliness, simple local customs, safety, comfort, and integration of dining, accommodation, and sightseeing. With the growth of coastal tourism, Wangjiazhao’s folk tourism industry has flourished, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from both within and outside the province to experience life as fishermen and explore the sea views.
