The Former Residence of Wang Xizhi is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a cultural relics protection unit of Shandong Province, and a patriotic education base.

The Former Residence of Wang Xizhi is a national 3A-level tourist attraction, located in the middle section of Xiyanchi Street in downtown Linyi. It enjoys convenient transportation and a prime location, and was built to commemorate Wang Xizhi, the greatest calligrapher in Chinese history. In 2003, to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of Wang Xizhi’s birth, the Linyi Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government invested 67 million yuan to expand the residence. The renovated site covers an area of 80 mu. While retaining its original style, several new scenic spots have been added.

The residence is surrounded by green walls and shaded by lush trees. Within the garden, streams murmur, willows sway, bamboos stand verdant, and colorful fish swim. Currently, the site features attractions such as Inkstone Pond Reminiscence, Goose Pond Warmth, Winding Stream and Floating Cups, Divine Light Illumination, Book-Drying Terrace, and the Five Sages Shrine. A full range of tourism facilities are available, and the service quality is first-class, making it an excellent destination for those on a calligraphy heritage journey in China.

Wang Xizhi (303–361, or alternatively 321–379), the Sage of Calligraphy, was a renowned calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and is honored as the “Sage of Calligraphy,” often mentioned alongside his son Wang Xianzhi as the “Two Wangs.” Wang Xizhi excelled in clerical, cursive, regular, and running scripts. He meticulously studied the structure of characters, practiced diligently, absorbed the strengths of various styles, and integrated them into a unique and influential approach that broke away from the brushwork traditions of the Han and Wei dynasties.
