A man surnamed Ren from Taipei went missing on April 11 while climbing Mount Longao in Ren’ai Township, Nantou County. Despite search efforts by police and firefighters since the 12th yielding no results, on the 27th, members of a civilian rescue team asked the family to pray to the mountain deity in the final search area. The next day, Ren’s body was found about 1 kilometer down the southwest slope of Mount Longao. On the 29th, it was airlifted down the mountain, and authorities are further investigating the cause of death.

Police investigation revealed that the man surnamed Ren, a resident of Taipei serving in the military, drove alone from Taipei to Hehuan Mountain in Ren’ai Township on the 11th. He parked his car at the Kunyang parking lot on Provincial Highway 14A and then climbed nearby Mount Longao. Earlier that morning, he had sent a friend a photo of blooming alpine azaleas in the mountains but did not return that night, prompting worried family members to report him missing.

On the afternoon of the 28th, rescuers found Ren’s body about 1 kilometer down the southwest slope of Mount Longao’s triangulation point. The next morning, with favorable weather, the county fire department requested an air force helicopter to airlift the body down. Authorities are conducting further forensic examinations.

On the 27th, the family prayed to the mountain deity in the final search area, calling for Ren to come home. The next day, rescuers found Ren’s headscarf and trekking pole about 1 kilometer down the southwest slope of Mount Longao, and subsequently located his body, bringing the 17-day search mission to a close.

Members of the Shenying Mountain Rescue Team set up a forward command post and divided into task groups, descending into the valley and cutting through dense bamboo thickets to cross treacherous terrain, eventually finding the missing man after an arduous effort.
