After being closed due to typhoon damage, the Qilan Forest Recreation Area reopened on January 20 following a year and a half of reconstruction and renovation, with brand-new panoramic suites now officially open to the public. From now until February 12, both Qilan Forest Recreation Area and Mingchi Forest Recreation Area offer free entry, while accommodations at Qilan Mountain Villa are available at an exclusive celebration discount of 50% on weekdays and 20% on holidays. Qilan, vibrant with flowers in all four seasons, is also home to a poignant love story of the Atayal people, and the misty landscapes formed by its terrain add to the refined charm of this jewel of the North Cross-Island Highway. Following its renovation, the exterior of Qilan Mountain Villa features indigenous totem designs that fully showcase the style of Atayal culture, with diamond patterns symbolizing the eyes of the ancestral spirits, signifying their protection. Whether staying in the newly renovated rooms or on the brand-new scenic platform, guests can overlook the spectacular confluence of the Lanyang River, Duowang River, and Sanguang River, and gaze up at the snowy mountain range to see the winter peaks veiled in white mist.

The restaurant at Qilan Mountain Villa has also been given a completely new look, with floor-to-ceiling windows creating an atmosphere akin to dining in a glass cabin with a wooden roof. The restaurant uses locally sourced monkey head mushrooms from the North Cross-Island Highway, preparing them in various ways to create a series of uniquely delicious mountain dishes. Departing from Exit 4 of Taipei’s Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall MRT Station, the service travels through the Xueshan Tunnel to Yilan’s Provincial Highway 7, arriving at Qilan Mountain Villa.
