Linyi Museum

Linyi Museum is located within the Confucius Temple and is a comprehensive geological museum. Linyi has a long history and profound culture. As early as the Mesolithic Age, 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, ancient people had already settled and thrived on this land, creating a civilization. To date, over 700 cultural heritage sites of various types have been identified within the region, and the museum houses tens of thousands of cultural relics, including 20 first-class national relics, 32 second-class national relics, and 362 third-class national relics.

The history of Linyi Museum can be traced back to before the founding of the People’s Republic of China. According to the 1945 "Linyi County Annals," “There were two metal and stone preservation offices and one museum room affiliated with the Linyi County People's Education Hall.” After liberation, the county cultural center oversaw cultural relic work. In 1960, an exhibition room for cultural relics and a stele corridor were established at the former Wuxian Ancestral Temple in Linyi, and a cultural relic collection group was formed in 1963. A cultural relic exhibition room was set up in 1979, and the museum was established the following year. In January 1998, it moved to the new site at the Confucius Temple.

The museum covers an area of 6,975 square meters, with an overall rectangular architectural layout. Along the central axis from south to north are the Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Hall, and Minglun Hall. On the east and west sides are side halls and a stele corridor. The total construction area is 2,878 square meters. It has now become a grand and spectacular historical site for visiting and sightseeing in Linyi. There are two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees in the museum, with lush foliage and towering heights, forming a major natural landscape in Linyi.

The museum currently houses a collection of more than 15,000 cultural relics, including nearly 500 national-level precious relics, particularly abundant in Neolithic and Han Dynasty artifacts as well as Han Dynasty stone reliefs. Since most of the collections come from local archaeological excavations and gatherings, they possess distinctive regional characteristics and high research value.
