Baima Mountain Scenic Area

Baima Mountain Scenic Area is located 4 kilometers south of Shilai Town, Xintai City. Originally a township-run forest farm, it covers a total area of 4 square kilometers, with the main peak at an elevation of 448 meters and the rock formation being limestone. The mountain stretches from the northwest to the southeast, and from a distance, it resembles either a reclining beautiful woman or a galloping horse, hence the name Baima Mountain. Within the mountain lies Shicheng Temple — “the temple is situated within the mountain, and the mountain resembles a temple fortress,” which is how it got its name. The year of its establishment is unknown.

The ruins of Shicheng Temple include a mountain gate, bell tower, Hall of Heavenly Kings, and Mahavira Hall, where Sakyamuni is the main deity worshipped. In front of the temple is a release pond. There are three ginkgo trees in the temple, standing like a tripod, all over 2,000 years old. The largest one has a trunk circumference of more than 10 meters, a height of 30 meters, and a crown covering 1.26 acres. It is known as the “Second Largest Ginkgo Tree in China.” The ginkgo trees of Baima Mountain are municipal-level key cultural relics under protection. Other scenic spots on the mountain include Fishing Terrace, summit caves, pagoda forest, and stele forest.

Gongli Town: Gongli Town is located in the western part of Xintai City and is the hometown of Sheng Liuxia Hui (Spring and Autumn period nobleman of the State of Lu, surname Zhan, given name Huo, courtesy name Qin). The town covers a total area of 79 square kilometers, with 64,000 mu of arable land, and administers 5 management areas, 43 administrative villages, and a population of 58,000.

Gongli Town enjoys superior natural conditions. Its terrain is higher in the south and lower in the north, with plains in the north and hills in the south, each accounting for half of the area, divided by the Cilai Railway and Mengguan Highway.
