The Thai government has announced that starting September 27 this year, the visa-on-arrival fee will be raised from the original 1,000 baht to 2,000 baht. Most tourists visiting Thailand are accustomed to using the visa-on-arrival option, which leads to congestion at airports and also increases the burden on entry checkpoints. It may even have caused security loopholes. By increasing the visa-on-arrival fee, the aim is to reduce the workload of visa-on-arrival staff at Thai airports and prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the country.

Currently, Taiwanese tourists who apply for a tourist visa in advance at the Thai Trade and Economic Office still pay a visa fee of 1,200 New Taiwan dollars per application. They need to prepare an original passport valid for more than six months, a copy of their ID card, one 2-inch photo, and the visa can be collected within one working day. The tourist visa restricts stays in Thailand to no more than 60 days.
