Doubled in price! Thailand’s visa-on-arrival fee increases by over a thousand yuan

The Thai government has announced that starting September 27 this year, the visa-on-arrival fee will be raised from the original 1,000 baht to 2,000 baht. Most tourists visiting Thailand are accustomed to using the visa-on-arrival option, which has led to congestion at airports and also increased the burden on immigration checkpoints. It may even have created security loopholes. By increasing the visa-on-arrival fee, the aim is to reduce the workload of visa-on-arrival staff at Thai airports and prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the country.

Currently, if Taiwanese tourists apply for a tourist visa in advance at the Thai Trade and Economic Office, the visa fee remains at 1,200 New Taiwan Dollars per application. Applicants need to prepare a passport valid for more than six months, a photocopy of their ID card, and one 2-inch photo. The processing time is one working day, and the tourist visa restricts stays in Thailand to no more than 60 days.
