The current King of Thailand is Rama X (Maha Vajiralongkorn), who is 66 years old. He ascended to the throne on October 13, 2016, and his official coronation ceremony took place on May 4, 2019. Following the coronation, he formally became Rama X. Prior to the official ceremony, on May 1, the new king married his fourth wife, Suthida, who became the new queen. The queen is the commander of the King’s Guard.

Thailand’s new queen, Suthida, is 40 years old and was formerly a flight attendant for Thai Airways. Rumors of a long-standing romantic relationship between the two had drawn public attention, so the development came as no surprise.
To celebrate the new king’s coronation, the royal parade made its way through Bangkok’s old city, circling the Grand Palace as it received cheers from thousands. Throughout Thailand’s streets, portraits of the king can be seen, and many shops sell images of the monarch. The commonly seen “Rama X” marking refers to King Rama X.

The Thai royal family spent nearly NT$900 million on this coronation ceremony. Thailand has also issued 150,000 commemorative pins. In daily life, Thai people hold the king and the royal family in high esteem, and products associated with the monarchy are especially well received. The foot masks launched by the Thai royal family are particularly favored by locals and have become a popular souvenir among tourists.
